Caribbean-born Naomi Campbell started her modelling career while still at school and made the successful transition to supermodel. She was the first black woman to appear on the cover of both the French and British issue of Vogue. She has since paved the way for other black models. In 1993 she launched a singing career and published her first novel in 1994.
